This sculptures in this series variously were designed to be viewed as table, wall and ceiling pieces. The designs were inspired by early orreries or, as per Wikepedia, a type of “mechanical device that illustrates the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons in the solar system in a heliocentric model”. The elements of the Orbits are composed of turned exotic woods, with most taking advantage of the curvilinear effects, textures and colors of the natural woodgrain. Some elements have been enhanced with tinted stains, metal leaf, or lacquerwork.
